AI Search Optimization: Get Found in ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews & Perplexity

AI search optimization — also called AEO (answer engine optimization) and GEO (generative engine optimization) — makes your business easy for ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews, Perplexity, Gemini and Copilot to understand, trust and recommend. I fix the technical foundations, add structured data, rewrite key pages so they answer buyers' questions directly, and build the outside mentions AI tools look for.

Is this you?

The problems this solves

AI tools don't mention you

Ask ChatGPT or Perplexity for a business like yours and your competitors come up instead.

Your pages don't answer real questions

Service pages promise "quality solutions" but never answer what buyers ask: price, timing, process and proof.

Search engines can't read your site properly

Missing structured data, pages that aren't indexed, slow pages or a sitemap that returns an error.

Your details don't match across the web

Different names, services and descriptions on your site, social profiles and directory listings.

Why AI search matters for your business

More buyers now ask an AI assistant instead of scrolling through ten blue links: “Who can fix a hacked WordPress site?”, “Best WooCommerce developer for a wholesale store”, “How much does a custom website cost?”. The assistant gives one answer and names a few businesses. If you’re not one of them, you’re invisible for that question — even if you rank well in classic search.

Google is moving the same way. AI Overviews and AI Mode (see Google’s guide for site owners) summarize the answer at the top of the page, and studies of 2026 search data show that pages cited inside those answers get far more clicks than pages that aren’t.

How do ChatGPT and Google AI decide what to recommend?

Each engine works differently, but they reward the same things:

  • Pages they can crawl and index. Google’s AI features mostly cite pages that already rank; ChatGPT search and Copilot rely on Bing’s index.
  • Direct, quotable answers. A clear two-to-three sentence answer under a question heading is easy to lift into a response.
  • Facts and numbers. Research on generative engines found that adding statistics, quotes and sources noticeably raises how often a page is used in AI answers.
  • A clear entity. Structured data that says who you are, what you offer and where you work — and matches what other sites say about you.
  • Corroboration. Mentions, reviews and profiles on other trusted sites that confirm your claims.

Different engines also cite different sources — one 2026 analysis found only a small share of domains cited by both ChatGPT and Perplexity — so the work covers your own site and the wider web.

What I change on your WordPress site

Because I’m a WordPress developer, I don’t hand you a list of recommendations and leave. I fix indexing and sitemap errors, write the schema into your theme or plugin, connect your pages into one entity, speed up slow templates and rewrite the key pages so they answer buyer questions first. Every change is tested on a staging copy before it goes live.

How I measure AI visibility

We agree on a fixed set of around 20 questions your buyers really ask. Every month I ask them in ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Google AI Mode and Copilot and record whether your business is named, linked or not mentioned, alongside Search Console clicks from your target countries. You see the trend, not a one-off screenshot.

I practice this on my own work

My own site and the 25+ client sites I’ve built share one consistent creator entity in their structured data. In October 2026 I verified 26 client websites in Google Search Console, submitted their sitemaps and sent more than 16,000 of their URLs to Bing through IndexNow — the same process I use for clients. Start with an AI visibility audit to see where you stand.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between SEO, AEO and GEO?

SEO helps your pages rank in classic search results. AEO (answer engine optimization) helps your content become the direct answer in features like Google's AI Overviews and featured snippets. GEO (generative engine optimization) helps AI assistants such as ChatGPT, Perplexity and Copilot understand your business and mention or cite it. All three rest on the same base — a fast, indexable, trustworthy site — so I work on them together.

Can you guarantee that ChatGPT will recommend my business?

No one can honestly guarantee that: AI answers change, and every engine chooses sources differently. What I can do is remove everything that stops AI tools from understanding and trusting you, publish clear answers backed by real facts, and measure your visibility every month so you can see what changes.

How long does it take to show up in AI answers?

Technical fixes and structured data take effect as soon as pages are re-crawled, usually within days to a few weeks. Being named in AI recommendations normally takes three to six months, because it depends on your content and outside mentions building up over time.

Does Google penalize content written for AI search?

Google rewards helpful content written for people. AEO and GEO work is about clarity — direct answers, accurate facts, real experience and good structure — which is exactly what Google's guidelines ask for.

What is llms.txt and do I need it?

llms.txt is a short, plain-text summary of your site for AI tools: who you are, what you offer and your key pages. It's quick to add and helps some tools understand your site, but schema, content and outside mentions matter more.

Why does Bing matter for ChatGPT?

ChatGPT search and Microsoft Copilot use Bing's index to find fresh pages. If Bing hasn't indexed your site, those tools are far less likely to see it, so every setup includes Bing Webmaster Tools and IndexNow.

Do you work on sites that aren't WordPress?

My main focus is WordPress and WooCommerce, where I can fix the code and schema directly. For other platforms I can do the audit, the content and the off-site work, and give your developer exact instructions for the technical changes.
