What I found when I audited 26 live WordPress sites
In October 2026 I audited 26 live client websites in one day. None of them was “broken”, yet almost all had problems that quietly hurt security or search visibility:
- 17 of 26 still had WordPress’s default “Hello world!” post, a “Sample Page” or a test page published — thin content Google counts against a site.
- Several sites exposed admin usernames through public author sitemaps, one of them derived from an email address — half of what an attacker needs to log in.
- One site still ran on http even though a valid SSL certificate was installed, so Chrome marked every page “Not secure”.
- One live site had a reset plugin active that can wipe the entire site in one click.
- Two stores returned an error code for their XML sitemap, so Google ignored the list of pages they wanted indexed.
- One store had more than a million filter URLs in Google’s results — a crawl trap that buries the real products.
All of it was fixed the same week. That’s what a care plan is for: someone who checks, notices and fixes before small problems cost you customers.
Maintenance vs. a care plan
Basic maintenance clicks “update” and runs a backup, as in WordPress’s own update guide. A care plan also makes sure the site keeps working for your business: forms deliver, checkout works after updates, pages stay in Google and Bing, speed doesn’t slip and the small improvements on your list actually get done.
What the monthly report looks like
One page, in plain English: updates applied, backups confirmed, security and uptime results, Search Console status (indexed pages, errors, top queries from your target countries), speed scores, what I changed with your developer time, and one recommendation for next month.

FAQ
Frequently asked questions
What does a WordPress care plan include?
Tested updates, daily off-site backups, security and uptime monitoring, search health checks in Google Search Console and Bing, speed checks, a set amount of developer time for small changes and a short monthly report.
Do I need a care plan if my host offers managed WordPress?
Managed hosting usually covers the server, backups and automatic updates. It doesn't test updates against your site, fix broken features, watch your Google index or make changes for you. A care plan looks after the website itself.
What happens if my site gets hacked while on a plan?
Monitoring usually catches problems early, before Google notices. If something does happen, I handle it as a priority, and cleanup is discounted for every care plan client.
Can I cancel any time?
Yes. Plans are month to month. If you leave, you keep everything: your site, your backups and all your accounts and access.
Do you only look after sites you built?
No. I take over existing WordPress and WooCommerce sites too. Every plan starts with an onboarding audit so I understand your site before changing anything.
What counts as a small change?
Text and image updates, new pages from existing layouts, plugin settings, form changes, small design tweaks and bug fixes. Bigger features are quoted separately, with a discount for care plan clients.
